High acclaim
The Swedish city of Göteborg, with its population of around half a million, proudly boasts an orchestra of its own that enjoys worldwide acclaim: the Göteborg Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1905, and was awarded the status of Swedish national orchestra in 1997. Following a »golden era« under Neeme Järvi between 1982 and 2004, Gustavo Dudamel’s reign as chief conductor from 2007 until 2012 was another high point. In the autumn of 2013, Kent Nagano took over the post as chief conductor. Under Marc Soustrot and with the internationally acclaimed tenor Klaus Florian Vogt, the northern elite ensemble will perform orchestral songs of Richard Strauss.
