»Jauchzet, frohlocket ...«

In the hands of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the RIAS Chamber Choir and conductor Hans-Christoph Rademann, the performance of this musical masterpiece promises to be an historically informed interpretation of the highest calibre. And the line-up could hardly be bettered: the young soprano Anna Lucia Richter, who was recently awarded the prestigious Borlotti Buitoni Trust Prize; contralto Anke Vondung, who is closely associated with the Semperoper in Dresden; tenor Maximilian Schmitt, who impressed greatly as the Evangelist in the St. Matthew Passion in the Wiener Konzerthaus in 2013 under Philippe Herreweghe and who will also be among the soloists of the end-of-year performances of Beethoven’s Ninth this year; and British bass-baritone Roderick Williams, who became known to a wider audience following the »Last Night of the Proms« in 2014. Rademann strives to recreate a central German baroque sound that he got to know intimately growing up as the son of a cantor in the Erz mountains. Together with the Chamber Choir, described by the magazine Gramophone as one of the best choirs in the world, and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, known for the vividness and discernment of its playing, Rademann will embark on the search for Bach’s musical secret shortly before Christmas in the Wiener Konzerthaus.
