Finland and Denmark are worth a visit, from a musical point of view, as well. This is evident from the Vienna Philharmonic’s foray into more recent Scandinavian symphonic music with works by Sibelius and Langgaard. And performing Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto – which speaks a similar harmonic language – the orchestra has invited Argentinian cellist and winner for the 2016 ECHO-Klassik prize, Sol Gabetta, on to the stage of the Great Hall of the Wiener Konzerthaus.
