Tension in image and sound

With its thousands of nerve cells, the hand is an important sensory organ that perceives the finest pressure, movement and vibration stimuli. Life without hands? Unimaginable! And what would life be like with someone else's hands? Robert Wiene's late expressionist masterpiece »Orlac's Hands« from 1924 deals with this question: after a train accident, the severely injured pianist Paul Orlac is transplanted with the hands of an alleged murderer. When he learns of the identity of the condemned »donor«, he is tormented by the thought that the »evil« hands could take possession of him or harm loved ones. Johannes Kalitzke and the Klangforum Wien sensitively trace the pianist's drama of the soul in Kalitzke's 2018 »Score of Fears«.
