In The Jazz Jungle

In this special concert in her farewell season as chief conductor, Marin Alsop unites the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra under her direction. The legendary jazz trumpeter - and leader of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra - Wynton Marsalis will be joined by the up-and-coming young Austrian trumpeter Selina Ott. This exciting Austrian-American constellation of musicians will perform two works by Marsalis for the first time in Austria. In his Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra, which was not composed until 2023 and received its world premiere with the Cleveland Orchestra under the direction of Franz Welser-Möst, Marsalis demonstrates the great stylistic and technical range of his instrument. Blues, lyrical ballads, marching fanfares, Latin American rhythms and the trumpeting of an elephant come together in this highly varied jungle of sound. This is followed by Marsalis' fourth symphony »The Jungle«, a homage to the urban jungle of the metropolis of New York, which is in a constant state of flux, pulsating with life and characterized by contrasts.
