6 Concerts in the Great Hall
Saalplan mit Kategorien
The »Card Complete« cycle offers orchestral soundscapes: both international and local orchestras paint a magnificent tableau with orchestral works from Beethoven to Stravinsky. Pure Brahms, including his only violin concerto and the 3rd Symphony, is on the program of the Budapest Festival Orchestra under its founder Iván Fischer. Beethoven's Symphonies Nos. 3 and 5 are presented as an original sound project by old master Jordi Savall with Le Concert des Nations. The Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal and the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, on the other hand, will be making excursions into the Romantic period with performances of Tchaikovsky's »Pathétique« and Bruckner's Seventh. »No work flowed so directly from his heart. The Sixth is his most personal work and a prophetic one at that«, wrote Alma Mahler about her husband's Sixth Symphony. Gustav Mahler's probably most personal 6th Symphony, which became famous not least because of its striking hammer blows, is in the proven hands of Vladimir Jurowski, who conducts the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. Soloists such as pianists Yuja Wang and Alexandre Kantorow, cellist Sol Gabetta and violinist Nikolai Szeps-Znaider provide solo highlights in the orchestral action.
