Bach - Haydn - Lutosławski
»When I play the violin, it's the most beautiful thing«, says Isabelle van Keulen. The celebrated Dutchwoman plays both violin and viola at a world-class level. Composers such as Theo Loevendie and Erkki-Sven Tüür have dedicated solo concertos to her. With the Vienna Chamber Orchestra under the direction of chief conductor Jan Willem de Vriend, van Keulen will perform Joseph Haydn's Violin Concerto in C major Hob. VIIa/1. Haydn wrote it for the Esterházy court orchestra, specifically for its concertmaster Luigi Tomasini, who was a famous violinist and composed it himself.
The matinee at the beginning of June will also feature Johann Sebastian Bach's second orchestral suite and a Sinfonia in F major by his eldest son Wilhelm Friedemann as well as the »Musique funèbre« by the composer, conductor and pianist Witold Lutosławski, who died 30 years ago. Lutosławski created the work in memory of Béla Bartók; the premiere took place on the tenth anniversary of Bartók's death.
