Mission Statement of the Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft

The Wiener Konzerthaus is the place in Vienna where music comes alive for everyone. With a program that combines innovation and tradition, the world's best musicians create inspiring experiences for our audience. Our mission is to connect people with excellent music in a lasting way and to create spaces where artistic events bring people together and move them. The focus is on music and people.

Vision and values in action – right from the start

»A place for the cultivation of noble music [...], a gathering place for artistic endeavors, a home for music and a home for Vienna«, reads the document that the founding members of the Konzerthaus Society embedded in the keystone of the Wiener Konzerthaus. The Konzerthaus is not only a house for Vienna, but also—and this is what gives it its special identity—a house for the Viennese and for all people who want to contribute to a vibrant music culture here. To this day, it is considered a prime example of social self-organization. Different groups of people have come together here to experience artistic excellence and enable cultural participation.

Motivation

For 112 years, musical experiences at the Wiener Konzerthaus have resonated with audiences. Since its inception, the Wiener Konzerthaus Society has been committed to building on artistic tradition to capture contemporary trends, while also looking ahead to the future with a visionary program and providing a platform for pioneering art. More than 1,700 world premieres since its founding in 1913 demonstrate, among other things, the intensity with which the Wiener Konzerthaus is also dedicated to contemporary music life. Music that touches, stirs, delights, or inspires reflection—this vision drives our institution and all our employees.

Innovation und Tradition

Building on this tradition, each new season we realize projects that open up new perspectives and allow us to look confidently to the future. Musical excellence and programmatic diversity are ongoing constants in our concert activities; the broad spectrum of music ranges from early and contemporary music to major international orchestras and chamber music masterpieces, from literature, film, and music to children's concerts, workshops, and inclusive concert formats, from jazz to world, pop, folk, and Viennese song, from unique solo voices to polyphonic choral experiences, and from multimedia crossover to classical symphonic concert matinees. From morning to night, the Wiener Konzerthaus resounds and glows with the most dazzling colors of music!

Inclusion

It is also important to us to make excellent music accessible to as many people as possible in this city and beyond. The venue serves the people and is therefore open to everyone. In this sense, inclusion and accessibility are important components of both our program planning and our daily activities. Formats that bring people with and without disabilities together through music, such as the Zero Project Award-winning Summer Music Week and the many school collaborations in which children and young people from all districts of Vienna can work with outstanding musicians from all over the world, are just a few examples of how diverse the offerings at the Wiener Konzerthaus are.
