Originalton
The Vienna Konzerthaus has a long literary tradition: literary giants such as Karl Kraus, Thomas Mann, Friedrich Torberg and Erich Kästner have all given readings here in person. For several years now, »Originalton« has been building on this legacy, presenting contemporary authors and their musical alter egos. From the 2026/27 season onwards, we are transforming our subscription series into a new programme. What does this mean? Leading authors will present their latest titles to you, hot off the press, on the very day of publication. We will let you know as soon as the event is confirmed. We can already reveal one highlight: László Krasznahorkai, winner of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature, will be a guest at »Originalton«. He received the highest literary honour for »his haunting and visionary work, which affirms the power of art amidst apocalyptic horror«: »With an absolute ear for linguistic nuances and the finest distinctions« (SWR Kultur), Krasznahorkai is regarded, according to the jury’s statement, as »a great epic writer in the Central European tradition from Franz Kafka to Thomas Bernhard«. You won’t want to miss this!
