Petya i volk »Peter und der Wolf«. Ein symphonisches Märchen op. 67 für Erzähler und Orchester (1936)
Why children should listen to their elders, what turbulence an open garden door can cause, how Peter puts everything right in the end and even the wolf finds his place: Prokofiev's musical fairy tale, told with plenty of vigour and interaction.
About the work
In 1936, Nataly Satz, the director of the Moscow Children's Theatre, commissioned Sergei Prokofiev to compose a symphonic fairy tale that would introduce children to the instruments of an orchestra. Prokofiev accepted the commission and the result was one of the most successful musical fairy tales in music history! The bird chirps, the duck waddles, the grandad nags, the wolf stalks! Each protagonist was given their own instrument and their own melody! As then, so today: as soon as the orchestra begins to play and Peter's melody rings out, the concert hall is enchanted for young and old alike.

Get to know orchestral instruments!
After the concert, interested children will have the opportunity to try out various orchestral instruments such as the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, violin and cello for themselves in the Schönberg Hall.
