Andrè Schuen / Daniel Heide

Franz Schubert’s »Winterreise« is regarded by many as the crowning glory of the lieder repertoire. It is »the first work that springs to mind when one speaks of lieder«, emphasises the South Tyrolean baritone Andrè Schuen. The 24 songs, set to poems by Wilhelm Müller, deal with disappointed love, loneliness and a longing that pushes one to the brink of madness. Together with pianist Daniel Heide, Andrè Schuen – a »Portrait Artist« of the Wiener Konzerthaus – has delved deeply into Schubert’s late song cycles. Internationally acclaimed on both opera stages and concert podiums, the award-winning singer thus reveals his particularly lyrical side. »There are images in which time seems to stand completely still, states of mind in harmony with the frozen winter landscape«, says Schuen of the symbolic power of »Winterreise«.
