A tribute to John Coltrane
On 23 September 1926, a musician would have turned 100 – a man without whom the history of jazz would have taken a different course: John Coltrane. In 1963, he released a legendary album with Johnny Hartman, in which his saxophone engages in a beguiling dialogue with Hartman’s velvety voice. Now, two leading figures in jazz, Bradford Marsalis and Dianne Reeves, pay tribute to the great saxophonist and his legendary album. The pair tackle standards such as »My One and Only Love«, »They Say It’s Wonderful« and »Lush Life«, seductively blending the sound of voice and saxophone and reviving the tender expressiveness of Coltrane’s ballads.
Branford Marsalis
Branford Marsalis, who grew up in a musical family in New Orleans and is the brother of Wynton Marsalis, is a three-time Grammy Award winner. He not only collaborates with symphony orchestras but has also performed with the Grateful Dead and Sting in major pop arenas. He has been a regular guest at the Vienna Konzerthaus with his quartet since 2007.
Dianne Reeves
Dianne Reeves has been delighting audiences for decades with her magnificent voice, which boasts an impressive range and is capable of producing a wide variety of timbres. In addition to numerous other awards, the life-affirming singer has received a total of five Grammys. Since 2002, she has graced the Vienna Konzerthaus time and again with various ensembles.
