Diatonic expeditions
In the Diatonic Expeditions, Styrian harmonica meets hammered dulcimer, harp, vocals and bass clarinet. Founded as a chamber music study project at the Bruckner University Linz, the enthusiastic trio is now active internationally. It has already delighted audiences throughout the Alpine region, in New York City and in Ottawa, Canada, with its programme consisting of original compositions and interpretations of a wide variety of music, including Astor Piazzolla, George Gershwin, Elvis Presley and Nina Simone.
Baba Yaga
The second half of the programme features Baba Yaga –, an ensemble whose name refers to a well-known figure in Slavic mythology: Baba Yaga is regarded as a wild, unpredictable and often dangerous figure. Certainly a reference to the fiery sound of the quintet: Baba Yaga fuse rousing Balkan rhythms with virtuoso klezmer pieces, gypsy jazz and oriental dances. The five young musicians from Austria, Montenegro and Israel heat up any audience with violin, double bass, accordion, guitar, vocals and percussion.
