A heartbeat of hammers
What is now celebrated as spirited and amazingly unified had its beginnings far from the international stage. Early on, the twin sisters Ferhan and Ferzan shared a piano and an uncompromising ambition, which gave rise to the almost telepathic interplay that still characterises their music-making today. In their encounter with the AlFa Duo, the forces are multiplied: in »Mirrors from the East«, the two pianists and the two percussionists form a pulsating body of sound. The condensed precision of Philip Glass and Steve Reich spills over into the poetic directness of Fazıl Say's arrangements for marimba and vibraphone, while Avner Dorman sets colour-saturated counterpoints. A programme that is literally electrified – rhythmic, impulsive and rousing.
