Radiant baroque trumpet sounds

Trumpets have always stood for festivity and splendour. They were just as much a part of processions as they were of coronations and other important festivities. Johann Sebastian Bach opened the Christmas Oratorio with them accompanied by timpani.

Representative splendour and rural cheerfulness
Festive music for the Christmas season is presented by two of the most gifted trumpeters of our time together with the original Gabetta Consort, conducted by Andrés Gabetta, Sol's brother. The programme takes us back to early 18th century Venice at Christmas. The programme focuses on concertos by »Prete rosso« Antonio Vivaldi in arrangements for trumpet(s) and flugelhorn as well as by Francesco Geminiani, Pietro Locatelli and Alessandro Marcello. The concerto by the Bolognese violinist Lorenzo Gaetano Zavateri stems from an old Italian Christmas tradition and alludes to music-making shepherds at the manger of Jesus with its epithet »Pastorale«.
