A mythical artist
Ivo Pogorelich's career began long before today's social media hype. In 2018/19, the Belgrade-born pianist celebrated his 60th birthday and forty years on stage. In an interview, Pogorelich, who works long hours on his programmes and publications, postulated that »Art takes time.« Not only does the artist need this when honing nuances, drawing great lines – the audience must also engage with this compelling originality during the listening experience. »High art has one characteristic: it is cruel, even to me«, says the pianist. His approaches are never pleasing, often surprising, irritating and above all: new. You can look forward to a recital by this unpolished pianist with works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Frédéric Chopin, with whom he has been particularly intensively involved.
