»His intensity and elegance, combined with his musicality and radiant appearance, make him the epitome of the 21st-century opera star«, enthused the editor of Opera News. Star tenor, heartthrob, and a true ‘Münchner Kindl’: Jonas Kaufmann remains the most sought-after tenor amongst the international elite. The singer is just as much in demand internationally for the Italian and French opera repertoires as he is for the German one. He has sung Verdi’s »Otello« in London, Munich and Naples, and »Aida« and more at the Arena di Verona. For him, the magic lies »in the subtlety of expression«. »I am very receptive to what music conveys«, he says, seeing it as a force that stirs emotions.

Following his major »Viva Puccini« at the end of 2024, Kaufmann will return to the Vienna Konzerthaus in spring 2027 with the soprano Marina Rebeka and the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, conducted by Jochen Rieder. This time, the »greatest tenor of our day« (The Daily Telegraph) will be devoting himself entirely to the second grand master of Italian opera: with arias, duets and scenes from popular works by Giuseppe Verdi, the acclaimed specialist takes the audience on a journey into a world full of drama, emotion and even burlesque moments. For Jonas Kaufmann, the special power of Verdi’s music lies in the fact that »Giuseppe Verdi is a man of the people: his music is so compelling that it reaches and moves people even outside the world of opera.«
