Promise of comfort
These fragile sounds, directed inwards with overwhelming intensity, are reminiscent of the child—who died far too young—of a couple who were close friends of the composer, whilst at the same time taking up the promise of comfort found in the Beatitudes, as recorded by the Evangelist Matthew. Aimard precedes these with selected preludes and fugues from Book II of Bach’s »Well-Tempered Clavier«.
