Poetry set to music
Ludovic Tézier's powerful voice has thrilled audiences on the world's great opera stages, such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Vienna State Opera and La Scala in Milan. He achieved international fame after his studies in Marseille and Paris and his first successes in Lucerne, Toulouse and Lyon.
Powerful baritone
Today, Ludovic Tézier is one of the leading singers in his field. The baritone has also made a name for himself as a concert and lieder singer. In his lieder recitals, he mainly focusses on French and German songs. At the Wiener Konzerthaus, he will perform Schumann's »Dichterliebe« and Wagner's »Wesendonck-Lieder« at the centre of his recital, accompanied by the British pianist Julius Drake.
The pinnacle of romantic song
In his song cycle »Dichterliebe«, Robert Schumann set poems by Heinrich Heine to music with masterly complexity. It depicts the highs and lows of an unhappy love –, from exuberant rapture to deep despair and melancholy. Schumann composed the cycle in 1840, his wedding year with Clara.
Pre-Tristanesque miniatures
Death, longing, desire and eternal love are the themes of the Wesendonck Lieder, which Richard Wagner set to music based on poems by his muse Mathilde Wesendonck. The five songs are regarded as a preliminary study for »Tristan und Isolde«. The songs were originally composed for female voices, but there are also a number of renowned baritones who have dared to interpret these expressive songs, including Matthias Goerne, Konrad Jarnot and Roman Trekel. Their interpretation of Ludovic Tézier is therefore particularly exciting.
