Pioneering composer and pianist

With around nine billion streams per year, Ludovico Einaudi is one of the most listened to neoclassical artists in the world. He will be making a guest appearance at the Wiener Konzerthaus on two evenings solo on the piano – with his soulful music, which moves between classical music and minimalism.

Musical beginnings
Ludovico Einaudi was born in Turin in 1955. His mother, an amateur pianist, awakened his love of music at an early age. He studied at the Turin Conservatory and completed his studies under Azio Corghi at the Milan Conservatory. He then worked with the composers Luciano Berio, whose assistant he became, and Karlheinz Stockhausen. In 1982, Einaudi received a scholarship for the Tanglewood Music Festival, where he first came into contact with American minimalism – a style that was to have a lasting influence on his later music.

Icon of neoclassicism
The rest is history: Ludovico Einaudi's musical breakthrough came with his solo album »Le Onde« (1996). Inspired by Virginia Woolf's novel »The Waves«, the album brought him worldwide attention and made him a formative voice in neoclassical music. However, the Italian composer's work is not only inspired by literature: Nature, time and emotions play an important role in his extensive oeuvre.

Ludovico Einaudi »Solo Piano«
Ludovico Einaudi reveals the full emotional and tonal depth of his music solo on the piano. In this pure form, the characteristic elements of his style – repetitive patterns, floating harmonies and subtle dynamics – come into their own. Einaudi's sound world can be heard in all its clarity and expressiveness: These two concerts offer a rare opportunity to do so!
