NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester / Andsnes / Gilbert

The Wiener Konzerthaus welcomes a special new addition: the new Steinway D-274, number 532, adds an outstanding instrument to its range of concert grand pianos. The grand piano is characterised by its warm, rich yet brilliant tone. The multi-award-winning Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes is honoured to inaugurate the new grand piano with Johannes Brahms’s Second Piano Concerto. This opulent four-movement concerto was composed in 1881 and is particularly impressive for the tonal balance between the piano and the orchestra. It will be performed by the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra under the baton of Alan Gilbert.

Debussy & Ravel
Two significant works of French Impressionism round off the programme: Claude Debussy’s »La mer« and Maurice Ravel’s »Daphnis et Chloé«. Both compositions unfold striking musical images: in the three symphonic sketches of »La mer«, Debussy captures the changing moods of the sea. Ravel’s orchestral suite »Daphnis et Chloé« tells the story of the happy ending to this pastoral love story in three parts that flow seamlessly into one another.
