Anna Vinnitskaya plays Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2

Anna Vinnitskaya is celebrated for her creative power and nuanced playing. At the Wiener Konzerthaus, the pianist will dedicate herself to Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto –, viewing the work, composed in 1900/01, as a document of its time. On the eve of the First World War, Rachmaninoff's music represented the ambivalent attitude to life of the fin de siècle, which was characterised by a diffuse mixture of hopeful optimism and fear of the future, end-of-days mood and world-weariness.

Orchestre de Paris under Klaus Mäkelä
Rachmaninoff is also on the programme in the second part of the concert evening: the Orchestre de Paris plays his Second Symphony under chief conductor Klaus Mäkelä, which impresses with its dense, emotional orchestration.
