Silhouette against a backdrop of oriental sounds
A fairy-tale world straight out of 1001 Nights, animated with delicate paper-cut figures inspired by Far Eastern silhouette techniques: Lotte Reiniger produced some 250,000 individual frames, of which she ultimately used a third. With these, she created [!!!!The Adventures of Prince Achmed«, which is regarded as the first animated feature-length film. It tells of the prince’s love for the fairy Pari Banu, evil sorcerers, flying horses, demons and Aladdin’s magic lamp. This unique masterpiece of cinematic art is accompanied by Peter Rosmanith and Otto Lechner, who have long been engaged with the music of the Orient. They weave a tapestry of sound - as powerful as it is delicately patterned - around the enchanting images, creating a poetic atmosphere to complement the visuals.
