POMME

Pomme is regarded as one of the most important voices in modern French chanson and has already won the prestigious Victoires de la Musique awards. Her melancholic melodies are paired with personal, poetic lyrics. Now aged thirty, Pomme is taking sole creative control of her music for the first time on her fifth album: The title of her new work »La Forteresse« (»The Fortress«) has accompanied her for years – as an image that signifies both protection and imprisonment.

Between chanson, mythology and dream worlds
For her new album, the French musician delved deeply into medieval imagery, illuminated manuscripts and mythology. She explored the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch, the musicals of Jacques Demy and Michel Legrand, the live performances of (La)Horde and Peeping Tom, and the dreamlike cinema of Hayao Miyazaki. Musically, the spectrum of her influences ranges from Björk and Sufjan Stevens to Feist and Kate Bush.

La Forteresse
Pomme’s new album is divided into four chapters: childhood, love and trauma, breaking through the wall and, finally, emerging on the other side – in the present. At the centre is a fictional creature, half-human, half-bat. Taken in by humans long ago, it spends centuries in a fortress until it decides to break through its walls. Her second concert at the Vienna Konzerthaus is sure to be a breakthrough in its own right. Pomme made her Austrian debut here back in 2022 – and now she returns with »La Forteresse«.
