Beethoven's Ninth at the turn of the year
The performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony on New Year's Eve has been a Viennese tradition for decades and is a festive highlight at the end of the year. This year, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra will present the work under the direction of Dima Slobodeniouk. Together with the Wiener Singakademie and a top-class soloist quartet – Christiane Karg (soprano), Beth Taylor (alto), portrait artist Julian Prégardien (tenor) and great talent Alexander Grassauer (bass-baritone) – the monumental symphony will be performed, the final movement of which, with Schiller's »Ode to Joy«, is one of the most powerful messages in music history. Beethoven's Ninth combines the celebratory character of the New Year with a message of hope and humanity that touches us anew every time.
