Young quartet with roots in tradition
It was trained by members of the legendary Alban Berg Quartet and can look back on a large number of prizes and awards: The Vienna-based Simply Quartet belongs to the top class of the new generation of string quartets. This chamber music evening marks the start of the new cycle »string.«, which the Simply Quartet will perform together with the Berlin-based Leonkoro Quartet.
New format with podcast
The new format is characterised by compact programmes without a break, presented by the members of the ensembles themselves. In addition, there is an accompanying podcast called »stringendo«, in which our editor Barbara Alhuter talks to members and provides exciting insights. The podcast will be published on our website before each concert.
Programme of the evening
The programme opens the cycle with the String Quartet in A major Hob. III/36 or op. 20/6 by Joseph Haydn, who is considered the creator of the genre. It belongs to the collection of the so-called »Sun Quartets«. Bedřich Smetana's String Quartet No. 1 in E minor »From My Life« T 116 will be performed in second place. It is the first of only two string quartets written by the Czech composer, in 1876, the year he went deaf.
