Literary voice against totalitarianism

Sofi Oksanen writes against totalitarian power and its effect on women. The Estonian-Finnish author is best known for her novel »Purgatory«, for which she was honoured with two of Finland's most prestigious literary awards –, including the Finlandia Prize and the Rune Prize. In »Purgatory«, which has so far been translated into 38 languages and spent months at number one on the Finnish bestseller list, Oksanen describes the extraordinary encounter between two women, through which the painful history of their family is gradually revealed –, interwoven with the history of the entire country. Sofi Oksanen will read from her literary work in English – at the Wiener Konzerthaus, accompanied by soprano saxophonist Andrej Prozorov.
