The sound of Latvia
Latvia has a rich choral tradition. Singing is practically an elixir of life here. The Baltic song and dance festivals are even part of the intangible world cultural heritage.
State Choir Latvija & Iveta Apkalna
The country's largest professional choir, the State Choir Latvija, is making its debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus. They will be joined by the multi-award-winning Iveta Apkalna, titular organist of the Klais organ in the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. Together they will perform a concert evening that proves how well organ and voice harmonise with each other.
Sacred choral music and impressive organ works
The programme combines sacred choral music from several centuries with impressive organ music, including William Byrd's simple motet »Ave verum corpus«, Benjamin Britten's festive »Te Deum«, Pēteris Vask's appeal for peace »Dona nobis pacem« and Johann Sebastian Bach's powerful Fantasia in G major BWV 572.
