Experience Don Giovanni first-hand
What remains of an opera when one dispenses with elaborate sets and costumes? In the case of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s »Don Giovanni«, above all that which matters most in musical theatre: people, their relationships, their longings and their contradictions. With this semi-staged production, Opera Verace presents a concert at the Vienna Konzerthaus that combines artistic immediacy with the promotion of young opera singers at the start of their international careers.
The project offers the artists the opportunity to showcase their talents in a professional setting and to develop their own interpretations of Mozart’s characters. At the same time, it gives the audience the chance to discover a new generation of opera artists.
»Semi-staged« here means that this reduction creates space for what is essential: the characters and their stories. The performers’ personalities thus come immediately to the fore. Their individual interpretations, the dynamics of their relationships and the emotional power of the music become the centre of the action.
The concert relies on the impact of the music and the expressive power of the performers. This creates a special closeness between the stage and the audience – not least because the orchestra is seated on stage and functions as part of the overall concept.
An abridged version has been devised for the concert evening, taking into account the specific requirements of the concert format. It offers a focused approach to Mozart’s work without losing sight of its dramatic power. Surtitles in German and English form part of the stage action and enable the audience to connect even more closely with the characters in all their authenticity.
In this way, *Don Giovanni* combines musical quality, a focus on the essentials and the promotion of talent. The focus is on the music, the performers on stage and the invitation to experience Mozart’s masterpiece first-hand and in a very vivid way.
