»Dedicated to Miss Delphine von Schauroth«

His technique is flawless, his interpretations are extremely mature: the young pianist Jan Lisiecki impresses on the world's great stages. He has already appeared at the Wiener Konzerthaus both in recital and in orchestral concerts. He now plays Mendelssohn's 1st Piano Concerto with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Philippe Jordan. The composer dedicated it to the pianist Delphine von Schauroth, whom he had met in Munich in the summer of 1830 and for whom he was enamoured.

The »Romantic«
Bruckner's 4th Symphony is on the programme in the second half of the concert. It owes its nickname »Romantic« to various oral and written remarks by the composer. Among other things, Bruckner once described the opening movement as the »romantic image« of a »medieval town«, in which the horn at the beginning »proclaims the day« from the town hall.
