Description

Since its foundation, Ars Antiqua Austria has been dedicated to the rediscovery and performance of Austrian Baroque music in historical performance practice. The focus is on the unmistakable sound that originated at the imperial court in Vienna –, characterised by Italian, French and Spanish influences as well as folk music from the crown lands of the Habsburg monarchy. The four concerts this season will take you to the imperial court in Vienna and to the prince archbishop of Salzburg with works by Johann Joachim Fux and Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber. One evening will be dedicated to Karl Kohaut, Joseph Haydn's lutenist, and another to »Bach privat« in the established tradition: Gunar Letzbor will perform Bach's Violin Sonata No. 3 in C major BWV 1005 as well as works by Johann Joseph Vilsmayr, Johann Paul von Westhoff and Georg Philipp Telemann.
