Description
Richard Wagner's »Ring of the Nibelung« deals with timeless themes of humanity with the conflict between the destructive striving for power and possession on the one hand and the redeeming power of selfless love on the other, and yet – or precisely because of this – it has remained one of the most enigmatic creations in the history of music and theatre to this day. Kent Nagano, together with the Dresden Festival Orchestra and a group of historically informed singers, has been grappling with one of these mysteries, which has received surprisingly little attention to date, for years in a large-scale project: How was the »Ring« actually supposed to sound in Wagner's imagination? And how was he able to realise this idea in his time? Kent Nagano presents the sonorous result of his research in the course of a complete performance of Wagner's stage festival within a few days: a rare opportunity to experience the tetralogy in concentrated form.
