Description
For its farewell season, the Hagen Quartet, one of the mainstays of chamber music at the Wiener Konzerthaus for decades and an honorary member since 2012, has chosen a Schubert focus, which culminates in a true chamber music summit in the last concert: One of each of the three great last quartets by the early Romantic composer are the main works of the first three evenings, followed on the last by the unsurpassed string quintet with Julia Hagen as second cellist. The same concert will also feature Brahms' Piano Quintet – originally also planned as a string quintet with two cellos – with the fantastic young pianist Mao Fujita. Bach, the late Beethoven, the expressionist young Webern and probably Shostakovich's most personal work are the other milestones in this superlative cycle.
