Description
Brahms' B major Trio and Beethoven's »Archduke Trio«, two of the most marvellous classics of the genre, form the framework for this cycle, with equally valuable rarities on offer from the world-famous instrumentalists who appear here: The fixed starters Nikita Boriso-Glebsky, Narek Hakhnazaryan and Georgy Tchaidze present the only piano trios by Hakhnazaryan's compatriot Arno Babadjanian and by Leonard Bernstein, both of which have only been performed once before at the Wiener Konzerthaus. Renaud Capuçon, Kian Soltani and Mao Fujita present a Russian programme, namely the rather classically constructed 2nd Piano Trio by Shostakovich and, by contrast, the very unusual – and unusually long – only trio by Tchaikovsky. Finally, the recorded ensemble of Isabelle Faust, Jean-Guihen Queyras and Alexander Melnikov dedicate themselves to Beethoven in his original sound: before the »Archduke Trio«, Beethoven's latest trio, they also interpret his earliest contributions to the genre.
