Description
Markus Poschner has worked closely with the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra for many years and is now taking up his post as chief conductor of this important orchestra. In his first season in this role, he not only sets the tone for the programme, but also establishes a new format: before the concerts he conducts, he organises introductions in which the orchestra takes part. The programmes of the five cycle concerts include evergreens such as Stravinsky's »Sacre du printemps«, Chopin's 2nd Piano Concerto, Brahms' 4th Symphony or Gershwin's »Rhapsody in Blue«, Erich Wolfgang Korngold's late Romantic Symphony in F sharp as well as four Austrian premieres. Special mention should be made of the symphony by Charlotte Sohy (1887–1955), which was composed during the First World War but only premiered a few years ago. Guests on the podium include Wayne Marshall and Bar Avni, while the soloists include »Great Talent« Giorgi Gigashvili and stars such as Rafał Blechacz and Anastasia Kobekina.
