Concertino: Mut! Melancholie! Mahler!

Do you want to get to know famous works of classical music and listen to brilliant melodies? Then »Concertino« is the right place for you! The Vienna Symphony Orchestra and Petr Popelka present Gustav Mahler's monumental First Symphony in the Great Hall. On the first weekend of Advent, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's magical »Nutcracker« will get you in the mood for the cold season. The duo Piano & Sand explores the mysterious realm of the Sandman on the wings of Edward Grieg's incidental music to »Peer Gynt«. And the four musicians of the no string quartet will show you that music is like friendships: they make use of differences, go their own ways with their instruments and voices and develop a new sound language from different styles.
Vorhören!
In workshops during the first part of the concert, the young audience will explore great works: Mahler's first and probably most catchy symphony, Stravinsky's ballet »Petrushka«, which is about a character similar to our Punch and Judy, Tchaikovsky's »Fate Symphony« and Schubert's »Great C major Symphony«, which was praised as »heavenly« by its discoverer Schumann. Experts teach these impressive works to young audiences in age-appropriate workshops.
