»Zemlinsky can wait.« Arnold Schoenberg’s famous remark, made on the occasion of Alexander von Zemlinsky’s 50th birthday in 1921, has proved true. The composer, who had fallen into obscurity following his emigration to the USA, had long awaited his rediscovery. The teacher of Arnold Schoenberg and Alma Schindler, amongst others, played a decisive role in shaping Viennese music at the beginning of the 20th century, but never fully embraced its radical innovations. The acclaimed lieder singer Florian Boesch, accompanied by Malcolm Martineau, presents six of Zemlinsky’s lieder, introduced by well-known songs by Franz Liszt such as »Die Loreley« and followed by songs by Franz Schubert.
