Masterpieces of art song from Germany, Norway and the USA
A list of his achievements on the world’s major opera stages and concert halls would fill the space available here. His honours include a Grammy and his appointment as a Kammersänger at the Bavarian State Opera. The Canadian bass-baritone Gerald Finley is undoubtedly one of the most significant voices of our time. He now graces the Mozart-Saal with a recital, accompanied by Julius Drake. The programme features songs by composers with whom he is largely very familiar through his recordings. Alongside selected songs by Robert Schumann from his ‘Liederjahr’ of 1840, the programme includes songs from Norway and the USA, by Edvard Grieg and Samuel Barber. Towards the end, the programme features songs to get you in the Christmas spirit, including works by Charles Ives, Benjamin Britten and Irving Berlin: »I’m dreaming of a white Christmas«!
