Women power
She was a much-celebrated composer in the 19th century and her works, including eight symphonies, were performed in Berlin and Vienna: Emilie Mayer. After her death in 1883, she was initially forgotten and it was not until the end of the 20th century that her work was gradually rediscovered. Her highly acclaimed 4th Symphony in B minor is on the programme of a concert by the Basel Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Delyana Lazarova.
Piano concertos by Robert and Clara Schumann
The soloist in Robert Schumann's piano concerto is the exceptional talent Alexandra Dovgan. Schumann's wife Clara sat at the keys at the premiere in 1845. Her Piano Concerto in A minor is played at the beginning of this concerto, which is entirely characterised by women.
