The Voice
His voice is his instrument – or rather, a multi-instrument. In 2021, he released his debut album, produced by Norah Jones and heavily inspired by Bobby McFerrin. In 2022, Michael Mayo was among the winners of the German Jazz Prize in the category ‘International Artist of the Year’. The singer, composer and arranger enjoyed great success in 2024 with his album »Fly«, which he recorded with Shai Maestro, Linda Oh and Nate Smith. This was followed in 2026 by two Grammy nominations in the categories Best Jazz Performance and Best Jazz Vocal Album.
Raised on groove
He was introduced to jazz as a child; after all, his mother was a sought-after backing singer who performed alongside Beyoncé, Diana Ross and Whitney Houston. His father sang and played the saxophone with Earth, Wind & Fire. Mayo himself worked with greats such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Dianne Reeves from a young age. Now, this promising jazz singer is making his debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus, showcasing his unique style – a blend of jazz, neo-soul and R&B.
