Expedition to Paradise. Doppelkonzert für Klarinette, Trompete und Orchester (EA)

Gustav Mahler found his last creative retreat in the mountains of South Tyrol, in Dobbiaco to be precise, in 1908 and 1910. More than a century later, the Südtirol Filarmonica is making its way from Mahler's former summer home to Vienna to perform in the Konzerthaus for the first time. Under the direction of Michael Pichler, two works will be performed that combine past and present: The first movement from Mahler's unfinished 10th Symphony - written in Dobbiaco, and the world premiere of »Expedition to Paradise«, a double concerto for clarinet, trumpet and orchestra by South Tyrolean composer and Viennese-by-choice Gerd Hermann Ortler. A tailor-made work for the two soloists Andrea Götsch (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra) and Bertold Stecher (Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra). »What drives us on our journey into the unknown? It is the shared dream of paradise.« - according to Gerd Hermann Ortler - »Music transcends time and space – it connects people, places and ideas across generations.« Südtirol Filarmonica: an expedition through memories that broaden horizons and create connections. Südtirol Filarmonica brings together all those South Tyrolean musicians who are active in the most diverse orchestras in the world. These musicians meet once a year to rehearse together, followed by a concert tour. The broad base of the Südtirol Filarmonica comprises 352 musicians – 78 of whom make up the orchestra line-up 2025. The Südtirol Filarmonica is guided by the values of »togetherness« and »inclusion«, expressed through fair pay, equal pay and gender equality.
