A Festival of Solemn Sounds
It happens every year, yet feels fresh every time: this December once again sees the traditional performance of the Christmas Oratorio by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Singakademie. This time, Alessandro De Marchi will conduct Parts I, II, IV and VI of Bach’s masterpiece. The Rome-born conductor and harpsichordist is best known as the long-standing artistic director of the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music (2009–2023), succeeding René Jacobs. Having served as general music director of the Baroque orchestra Academia Montis Regalis for twenty years, he founded the Festival Orchestra for the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music in 2019. The line-up of soloists is also extremely promising, featuring soprano Anna-Lena Elbert, contralto Beth Taylor, tenor Daniel Johannsen and bass Tomáš Král.
