Wiener Symphoniker / Wiener Singakademie / Koopman

Immediately following All Saints’ Day, the programme features what is probably the best-known musical tribute to the dead: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem. Regardless of the myths surrounding its genesis, the work continues to impress to this day with its poignant drama, as well as its contrapuntal mastery. Whilst Mozart was unable to complete his Requiem, Joseph Haydn finished his Symphony in D major »Salomon« whilst still in London. He would write no further symphonies after his return to Vienna.

A first-class line-up
Ton Koopman, known in particular for his transparent and thoughtful interpretations of Bach, conducts the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Singakademie through the scores. The line-up of singers is also promising: the tenor part is taken by Julian Prégardien, who is well known to the Konzerthaus audience. Soprano Julia Lezhneva made her debut at Resonanzen 2012 at the Vienna Konzerthaus and has since received rapturous applause on numerous occasions. They are joined by countertenor Maarten Engeltjes and bass-baritone Krešimir Stražanac.
