Description
A variety of concerts provide an opportunity for an inspiring exchange
of ideas that goes beyond the music itself and focuses on its historical
and social context. Experts from various disciplines will provide
insights into the unique world of the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, the
oeuvre of the most important German female composers of the 19th century
and the Russian music scene from Tchaikovsky to Prokofiev. The example
of highly virtuoso baroque castrato arias, sung by portrait artist Jakub
Józef Orliński, shows that fluid gender identities are not a
contemporary invention. Finally, the 30th anniversary of the Strottern
raises the question of what is specifically Viennese in music.
