Description
Six full-length vocal works from the baroque, classical and modern periods and a romantic song cycle, sung by star tenor Benjamin Bernheim, characterise the »Vokalklang« cycle: two oratorios on Old Testament themes, Haydn's »Creation« and Handel's »Belshazzar« on an episode from the Book of Daniel, are in the hands of Heinz Ferlesch and John Butt, who brilliantly demonstrated his expertise in Handel oratorios with his Dunedin Consort at the »Resonances« 2025. The two most extensive mass settings of Viennese Classicism – Mozart's Mass in C minor and Beethoven's Missa solemnis – can be experienced in interpretations by the grand masters Raphaël Pichon and Jordi Savall respectively. Finally, two works deal with the horrors of the Second World War: Mieczysław Weinberg's »Passagierin« has become one of the most successful works in recent opera history since its belated premiere. Benjamin Britten's »War Requiem«, written at almost the same time, has been a symbol of reconciliation since 1962.
