Eine Reise in die amerikanische Chortradition
Zuletzt begeisterte das international bekannte britische Vokalensemble VOCES8 beim Festival »Gemischter Satz« im Wiener Konzerthaus. Nun sind sie wieder zu Gast und präsentieren mit »Lead Me Home« einen Querschnitt durch die amerikanische Chortradition, vom Spiritual über den Folk Song bis hin zu zeitgenössischen Kompositionen.
Von Byrd bis Porter
Beim Programm unter dem Motto »Lead Me Home« stehen Werke wie Virgil Thomsons »My shepherd will supply my need« oder Spirituals wie »My lord, what a morning« und »Steal away« ebenso auf dem Programm wie visionäre Werke von Caroline Shaw, Morten Lauridsen und Eric Whitacre. Neben diesen besinnlichen Kompositionen erklingen Samuel Barbers »To be sung on the water« oder das amerikanische Volkslied »Shenandoah«, aber auch Songs von den Beatles, Bobby McFerrin oder Cole Porter. Zu Beginn steht mit William Byrds »Praise our Lord, all ye Gentiles« ein Werk aus dem elisabethanischen England.
