Pure Chopin
The career of pianist Garrick Ohlsson has always been linked to the composer Frédéric Chopin. In 1970, he was the first American to win the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. He was a guest at the Vienna Konzerthaus for the first time in 1975 and gave a piano recital dedicated entirely to Chopin in 1977. Almost half a century later, the Viennese audience has another chance to experience him in a concert dedicated to the Polish composer.
From B for Barcarolle to S for Sonata
With a programme ranging from nocturnes to a barcarolle, a fantasia, a scherzo and an impromptu, he presents the creative range of Chopin's music as well as its spiritual depth. The brilliant finale is the last of his three sonatas, in B minor, from 1844.
