    Symphonie Nr. 9 d-moll (1887–1896)

A grand piano concerto by Mozart, featuring Alexandra Dogan

»I’m only nervous when I’m not on stage«, said Alexandra Dovgan in an interview several years ago. The 19-year-old pianist is characterised by remarkable maturity. Her outward reserve is coupled with profound concentration and precise expression. At the age of just 11, she impressed Grigory Sokolov and went on to win first prizes at five prestigious competitions. Following her recital in the Mozart Hall in May 2026, she will now perform one of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s great piano concertos, K 491 in C minor, with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra conducted by Robin Ticciati.

Bruckner’s Ninth
The second half of the concert features Bruckner’s Ninth. In 1903, the Vienna Concert Association Orchestra, the predecessor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, gave the symphony its world premiere. »‘I don’t even want to start on the Ninth; I don’t dare, because Beethoven too brought his life to a close with the Ninth’!!!![, Bruckner explained his difficulties with this powerfully expressive work. He worked on the finale right up until his final days, but died before completing it in a ground-floor flat at the Belvedere, which Emperor Franz Joseph I had made available to him due to his respiratory failure.
