Description
Singer Angélique Kidjo, who combines African traditions with pop and funk, sees music as an energy space in which »people are made to smile and dance« and a »shared experience is created«. This interpretation corresponds to the aim of the STANDARD Konzerthaus subscription. However, it also aims to offer different approaches to music. The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra meets jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis. Multi-percussionist Vivi Vassileva and the Extasi Ensemble dedicate themselves to avant-garde composers such as John Cage and Steve Reich. Keyword classical music: conductor Jordi Savall presents his historically informed view of Beethoven using the »Missa solemnis«. With the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, finiteness finally takes centre stage: it is a central theme in Gustav Mahler's 9th Symphony, that masterpiece on the threshold between late Romanticism and modernism. Fancy a contrast? Kandace Springs lends jazz standards a touch of vocal soulfulness, while The King's Singers present a potpourri of folk, pop and jazz. Of course, Angélique Kidjo is also part of the experience.
