Description
Orchestras from Europe and North America as well as world stars as
soloists and conductors underline the internationality of the title:
guest orchestras from the Netherlands, France, Finland, Great Britain,
Canada, Italy and Luxembourg meet the Vienna Philharmonic. The latter
will be celebrating Zubin Mehta's upcoming 90th birthday with the former
master and will bring the concert to a monumental close with Mahler's
8th Symphony under the direction of Andris Nelsons. Nelsons' predecessor
as Gewandhaus conductor, Riccardo Chailly, honors us with his
Filarmonica della Scala and a Russian program. Another top orchestra
closely associated with Chailly opens the cycle: under its designated
chief conductor Klaus Mäkelä, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra performs
the first of no less than four Mahler symphonies in this cycle.
